Box Hill Institute is a TAFE that offers higher education and vocational education and training courses. It has certificate, diploma and degree courses in a range of fields, and students can study full time or part time. Located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, the main campus is easily accessed by public transport.

Studying with us means that you’ll have access to some of the most state-of-the-art facilities in the country — from our high-tech music recording and production studios to our working restaurant, where chefs Guy Grossi, George Calombaris and Curtis Stone trained. We operate a Nursing Skills Centre of Excellence, the Pets on Elgar veterinary training centre, information technology labs and our $41 million Integrated Technology Hub, the first of its kind.

Other campus facilities include cafeterias, student lounges, childcare services and libraries. We offer a number of student services, including employment assistance, counselling and a disability liaison service, and support for Indigenous students. We also offer specific literacy and numeracy support to provide eligible students with help to complete their course.

Certificate IV in Cyber Security

The Certificate IV in Cybersecurity is a new course. It has been developed in partnership with industry experts in the IT, Telecommunications, Banking and Security industries. There is a shortage of qualified cyber security practitioners and paraprofessionals. This course is the entry point into a career in Cyber Security.  You will develop the highly valued skills and knowledge needed for a career as a Cybersecurity Practitioner, Pen Tester, Systems Analyst or Systems Intrusion Detector. People in these roles detect network breaches in a network, undertake penetration testing on networks and websites, and identify and escalate cyber incidents to the security response team. Develop the knowledge and skills to work as a Bookkeeper using MYOB Software. You will learn how to maintain asset inventory records, prepare financial statements and establish and maintain a payroll system. Graduates can seek opportunities as a contract bookkeeper (working under the direction of a tax agent or public accountant for a bookkeeping business), working as an employed bookkeeper or running their own bookkeeping business.

Bachelor of Biosecurity Science

The Bachelor of Biosecurity Science will build specialised skills and knowledge across the broad spectrum of agriculture, food production, horticulture and environmental fields, focusing on the control and management of pests and disease. Graduates will be able to exercise initiative and professional judgement in the diverse context of biosecurity science. Students will develop skills and knowledge in the plant, animal and microbiological sciences in combination with an understanding of the social and economic framework surrounding the biosecurity continuum. The course commences with foundation studies in biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and introduces students to biosecurity and agriculture through site visits to relevant industries. At the conclusion of the course, students will undertake a two-month industry placement to evaluate and report on the biosecurity principles and practices in the workplace, demonstrating their skills and knowledge to potential employers.

Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural)

Students learn about architectural design and the construction of residential and commercial buildings with a focus on sustainable design. Project-based hands-on learning includes software training - AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-up Pro, Photoshop and 3DSMax. Students learn the skills to design, present and document building projects. The final stage project involves designing a cross-laminated timber (CLT) apartment building using Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Revit workshare. CLT construction methods and BIM technologies are new and emerging in Australia.The program has been developed with industry experts and highly qualified trainers, ensuring that students acquire skills in these leading areas of industry demand. There are opportunities for students to present their work to industry and participate in international study tours to Canada and the USA. Diploma of Nursing

The Diploma of Nursing course provides the essential skills and knowledge to work as an enrolled nurse in a variety of healthcare settings. In this rewarding career, enrolled nurses care for patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.The Diploma of Nursing will allow students to learn the implementation of basic nursing care, assess clients' health, analyse health-related information, and conduct administration and monitoring of medications and care for clients with different needs including older clients, acute care clients and people with mental health conditions. You will learn how to use software programming languages, including C#.NET, Java, Java Script, Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, WordPress, and Eclipse; and web technologies including: PHP, PHP Framework, CSS3, HTML5, Bootstrap 3+, JEE Java for the Web, JPA, ORM, JSP, and Servlets.The final project will have you working as part of a programming team designing, developing and presenting a software/web solution to meet an enterprise specification requirement for a local company or industry. You will consult with an industry client to identify and gather business requirements and technical specifications. Using this information, you will develop the technical brief and use learned rapid application development skills to build a software solution. You will then present this solution to the industry client.
