Do you see yourself co-ordinating a music festival, organising a dynamic corporate event or starting your own wedding planning business? This program will see you develop the strong and practical organisational skills essential for a career in the fast-paced and dynamic events management industry. Undertake training whilst engaged in practical event management throughout this course which reflects the role of the Event Manager responsible for the organisation and management of conferences, festivals and events either in a convention centre, a sporting venue, hotels, theatres or as an external independent event manager. You will be required to assist in organising actual live events at Melbourne Polytechnic and you will have the opportunity to gain paid or volunteer work at festivals, conferences and major cultural and sporting events. In conjunction with taking part in real events, you will be completing business, legal and financial management subjects.

Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Technology

The ICT industry is constantly evolving with new technologies continually being developed. People with ICT skills can work in any industry. The course is delivered by highly experienced staff, and students will be given the opportunity to work with hardware, software and networking equipment. It also includes Cisco and Microsoft material as part of the delivery strategy. The Diploma allows for broad skills development in a wide range of technical areas such as networking, database development, programming, operating systems, web development, project management and systems analysis. The Advanced Diploma provides in-depth specialisation in enterprise server, internetworking, security, mobile application development and e-business solutions.

Bachelor of the Built Environment

The course was designed with a range of stakeholders including architectural and construction firms to ensure students have the essential skills required by architects at undergraduate level and aligned to recommendations of the Australian Institute of Architects Standards for Undergraduate Programs in Architecture. You will gain advanced technical skills and substantial knowledge base including design principles and theories relating to the practice of architecture. You will create innovative design solutions that respond effectively to client briefs, sustainable principles and are sympathetic to the surrounding natural and built environments. You will gain knowledge to articulate appropriate construction techniques, materials and building services into design solutions mindful of embodied energy. You will be able to problem solve using a variety of techniques and tools in order to synthesise and apply knowledge to a range of planning and design tasks of varying size and complexity.

Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

This program provides an educational basis and practical training for a career at entry level within the building and construction industry, specifically medium building businesses. The program provides para-professional skills and knowledge needed to plan and co-ordinate the construction of medium-rise residential and commercial buildings including for example: monitoring, costing systems, scheduling, contractor selection, managing risk and quality assurance. Please note the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) is not delivered as the first year of this course and is not an exit point.

Bachelor of Education (Early Years)

We offer a contemporary and dynamic approach to the professional preparation of primary school and kindergarten teachers and those who want to work with young children in child care. This VIT accredited course focuses on transformative teaching practices, multiple perspectives, intentional and strategic teaching, critical reflection, leadership skills, social justice and equity. You have a unique opportunity to participate in a holistic program that offers a mix of on campus learning, internal placements in an on-campus practical room, specific professional placements and field day visits. Bachelor of Hospitality Management

This degree offers you an opportunity to develop your leadership potential, experience and attain practical industry skills and build the knowledge and expertise necessary to manage and succeed in Hospitality businesses and facilities globally.  You will use current industry software (such as Opera), experience work integrated learning in our restaurant, and even run real, live events! Your journey through this degree culminates in Capstone subjects 1 & 2 where exploration, investigation and problem solving will be applied to actual current industry issues.The Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) is for a duration of 36 months (3 years fulltime) with 20 core subjects and 4 electives. The Associate Degree of Hospitality Management (ADHM) gives students the flexibility to exit their study after 2 years of study. The ADHM is designed to provide student with skills in core hospitality competencies. The ADHM is for 24 months (2 years full-time) with 14 core subjects and 2 electives.

Diploma of Conservation and Land Management

This course provides students with a pathway to a career in the management of natural environments. Students gain specialised skills and knowledge required for fieldwork in the natural resource management industry.  Participants will undertake a range of practical field studies and projects to develop the technical vocational skills required for employment in this field.  It will benefit those who are either transitioning to, or already holders of qualifications in related tertiary courses. Many project sites are provided by local industry employers of graduates from this course. Overnight survey field trips and camps are included across the two year program at sites such as Kinglake National Park and the Grampians. Graduates will have the opportunity to work in a range of jobs associated with the management of State and National Parks, work with local government and other government and private agencies responsible for the management of parks, reserves and other natural areas.

Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying

This course provides to students para-professional skills and knowledge for building inspection work and for building surveying related to residential, industrial and commercial buildings. The Melbourne Polytechnic program will provide a diverse range of experiences in building theory, regulatory laws and practice, and will equip the student with the competencies required for building surveying and inspection. Students will attend site visits and study tours as part of their program.

Bachelor of Accounting

Developed in consultation with industry, government, accounting professional bodies and universities, this course includes the fundamental subjects of accounting, auditing, taxation and financial management. If you are interested in sustainability and environmental practices in business, this program can offer you electives in environmental sustainability to meet the growing demand for business professionals with knowledge of sustainable business practices. Students can exit their study after two years of study with an Associate Degree in Accounting.

Diploma of Visual Arts

The Certificate IV provides a foundation in the visual arts, with practical studio subjects in illustration, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and digital imaging. Art history and theory subjects engage students with ideas and concept, while business subjects explore the arts as a professional industry. In the Diploma year, the specialised streams of Illustration and Painting have a strong focus as students develop their own artistic style and concentrate on a personal body of work for graduation. Students develop a professional approach to their artistic practice through studio work and research, exhibitions, community projects, blogs and visiting speakers. This is a pathway program. You will be enrolled into the lowest level qualification and will progress, subject to satisfactory academic progress to the higher qualification.

Diploma of Music Industry

Since 1994, Melbourne Polytechnic has offered training in sound and music production by industry professionals using state-of-the-art equipment. Conducted in professional recording studios and performance venues, students use integrated projects to develop skills and prepare a professional portfolio of work to launch them into a career in the music industry. Programs are designed to be a vehicle for realising the musical, artistic, technical and career objectives of students, providing ample opportunities for collaboration with other aspiring creative professionals. The Diploma of Sound Production develops the skills required to produce commercial release quality music and is for students looking to become music producers. It has an emphasis on composition and arrangement, studio recording techniques and performance using interactive music technology.

Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media

Students will gain solid industry and technical knowledge and extensive experience in all aspects of TV and digital video content creation from story development through to scriptwriting, pre-production, production and post-production. They will have the opportunity to work on both multi-cam TV studio-based shows and a range of single camera productions which will be broadcast on community TV as well as Melbourne Polytechnics own WebTV station. There will be extensive hands-on experience with state-of-the-art digital cameras and professional lighting rigs. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to create a comprehensive portfolio of work and a professional CV. This course is ideal for aspirant film and TV professionals to collaborate with other creative passionate students in the creation of TV shows, dramatic web series, music videos and short films.
